Variant u for Types 1, 5, 6 and 9 Cancels

Type 1, 5, 6, and 9 cancels with variant u have the ship's name at the bottom of the dial instead of the top of the dial.

Note that variant u does not apply to postmark types with the -1 or -2 variant (ie, Type 9-1, 9-2, etc). These variants have no standard for the location of the ship's name.

The above example is provided to show the normal placement of the ship's name in the dial of a Type 5 cancel in comparison to the u variant.

Variant u for a Types 2tn, 7tn and 9n Cancels

Type 2tn, 7tn, and 9n cancels with variant u have the ship's name at the top of the dial and the hull designation and number at the bottom of the dial.
