USCS Hall of Fame

Approved with modification by the BOD on July 6, 2001

The USCS Hall of Fame (HOF) is not specifically a service award, although a nominee may be selected for past superior service to the Society or to the hobby of naval cover collecting. The primary purpose of the Hall of Fame is to recognize significant impact on the hobby, not the level of effort devoted to it. Living members of the USCS shall be ineligible for consideration for the HOF.

The USCS Hall of Fame serves two purposes:

* It educates members and others on the achievements of those who have had a significant or measurable impact on the hobby

* It helps to promote interest in the hobby through publicity in publications outside of the USCS.

Nominating and voting procedures:

1. Nominations for the Hall of Fame may be made at any time to the Selection Committee Secretary. The nomination may be typed or handwritten, but must discuss, in detail, why the nominee should be considered. Nominations will be filed, and subsequently considered, in the order received. Nominations made prior to July 6, 2001 to the Selection Committee shall be returned to the sponsor for resubmittal according to these revised rules.

2. Annually in December, a call for nominations for the HOF will be included in the USCS Log.

3. Annually by the end of February, the Secretary will submit one nomination to the Selection Committee. If there are no nominations on file, no selection will be made in that year. If multiple nominations are on file, only the earliest will be considered in any one year.

4. The USCS President presiding at the time these rules are approved shall appoint Selection Committee members to a four year term. Committee members may be reappointed for up to three successive four year terms by a succeeding President, but no member shall serve more than twelve years in a row. Vacancies during a term shall be filled by appointment for the remainder of the four year term. The Selection Committee shall be composed of two past USCS Presidents, one of whom shall act as Secretary, and a member of the then current USCS Board of Directors who shall chair the Committee. The Committee should deliberate in person; however, a telephonic or e-mail conference are acceptable alternatives.

5. In order to be selected for the HOF Award, the nominee must be unanimously elected by the Committee. If not selected, the nomination shall be returned to the sponsor for non-selection and the nominee shall be ineligible for consideration for a period of two years. The nomination may be resubmitted after a period of two years if significant new information has been developed in the interim. Unless the selection is disapproved by a majority of the Board of Directors at its annual meeting, the award will be announced at the annual convention and in the USCS Log. The USCS Public Relations Officer shall duly publicize the Award selection.
