"Big Stick Diplomacy" and the Great White Fleet Battleships:

From December 16, 1907 to February 22, 1909, 16 battleships with additional vessels and 14,000 men of the U. S. Navy traveled around the world. While navies today travel throughout the world as part of their standard mission, such a feat had never been attempted before 1907. Their course began at the East Coast of the United States at Hampton Roads, down the coast of South America, up the West Coast - the Panama Canal was not yet open - and then a stay of almost two months in San Francisco harbor. During this time, some of the fleet went to Seattle, then rejoined the rest in San Francisco, and on July 7, 1908 the fleet composition changed and they continued on to Hawaii.

Later stops were: New Zealand, Australia, Manila, Yokohama, Ceylon, Suez, various ports in the Mediterranean, and finally home to Virginia. The fleet arrived in Virginia on 22 February 1909.

POSTCARD DETAILS

Each Great White Fleet Post Card is meticulously reproduced from the scan of an original Classic Color Post Card from this era. The colors have been corrected, and blemishes have been retouched before printing. We have researched the specifications of each ship and have printed that information on the reverse side of each card.

Rear of postcard features details for each ship.
rear of each post card features ship's details.

Each card is approximately 3.5" by 5.5" in size, with slight variability. Since these are handmade, each card is unique. All cards are printed on acid-free 65 lb. cover weight card stock and reproduced on a high resolution laser printer for durability and accurate color representation.
